Engh Gardens: Turning Flowers into Scholarships

For many years, the Crimson Club has used the motto of “Turning Memberships Into Scholarships” with the primary goal of raising financial support to fund scholarships for University of Utah student athletes.  In a unique twist on that motto, Engh Gardens, and owner Darin Engh, is turning flowers into scholarships through a Gift In Kind partnership with the Crimson Club.

Through the Crimson Club Gift In Kind program, local businesses can donate necessary goods and services in exchange for Crimson Club membership benefits and often gain a tax advantage for the company.  Not all goods and services are eligible for the Gift In Kind program.  It is important to talk to the Director of the Crimson Club or the Director of Athletics to find out what is needed and what will qualify for Crimson Club membership benefits.

Darin Engh, a long time supporter of Utah Athletics and local businessman, benefits from trading goods and services to increase his annual Crimson Club membership level. Engh Gardens, located on 8214 South 700 East in Sandy and 6220 South Highland Drive in Salt Lake City, have been providing a Gift In Kind contribution with the Crimson Club since the mid 1990s. Darin is a little fuzzy on the detail of how his father, Dennis Engh, got started in the Gift In Kind program. He explained that his father established a relationship with the Crimson Club director and they looked for ways to increase his annual membership level and help Utah Athletics.   Engh uses his tickets and Crimson Club membership benefits for his company and family.  He enjoys his partnership with the Crimson Club and the way it gets the company’s name out into the community.

Doug Knuth, Director of the Crimson Club, recognizes that Gift-In-Kind partnerships provide a great way to increase scholarship dollars by saving on overhead costs.  “The mission of the Crimson Club is clear, to raise money in support of scholarships for University of Utah student athletes.   On the opposite side of the balance sheet, we have to be wary of our expenses and the Gift In Kind program allows us to do just that.  We can lower our expenses by accepting products and services which would normally be purchased.  The Gift In Kind program provides a great advantage to Utah Athletics and we hope provides a nice benefit for our Gift In Kind partners.”

If you or your company is interested in joining the Gift In Kind program with Utah Athletics please contact the Crimson Club office to make arrangements.  A Gift-In-Kind pre-approval form must be completed and approved BEFORE goods or services will be considered Gift-In-Kind and exchanged for Crimson Club membership benefits.  Not all goods and services will qualify for the Gift In Kind program.  The Director of the Crimson Club and the Director of Athletics will determine if products or services are eligible for Gift In Kind recognition.

The Crimson Club office is proud to partner with Engh Gardens and we hope you will consider supporting this great locally owned business. Go UTES!
